Local prelim: Sunday 5th August
When I received the draw for my prelim round, I had to laugh... I was to play Nicola Ball, who won numerous national titles in the 80's & 90's and had been plugged as Leicester's 12 year old prodigy! She has recently started playing again after a break of quite a few years but seeing her play in our Tuesday league it was clear she hadn't lost her touch.
This was the toughest draw I could have had, but I went into it positively. Unfortunately for me, Nicky barely put a foot wrong and the odd pot I missed was costly. She took the match 5-1, including a dish off my break to clinch it. It was an excellent performance, well done Nicky and good luck in the next round!
Now I have to look forward to playing Nicky again in the Tuesday night ladies singles next week!! I have to say it's a pleasure having her playing locally again and hopefully she will join our County squad soon!
