ladies tour

Tour 1:
24/25th March, Morley

Main: R1
Plate: R2

I was very much looking forward to my first tour event, drawn against Louise Etherington who had narrowly beaten me 3-2 at England trials earlier in the month. But it was apparent from my first frame at 9.30am that I wasn't in my usual form, missing pots and safety by some margin. We both struggled in a few of the frames but Lousie took the match 5-1 and deservedly so.

My first round plate opponent hadn't turned up so I wasn't called out to play again until 7.30pm, although I was confident I would play better than the morning session. Unfortunately I didn't do much right, going in off at least half a dozen times and losing 4-0.

I came away very disappointed as everything has been going right for me at County so far this season and I didn't do myself justice at all!! I have a 12.30pm start at Tour 2 in Peterborough against Dawn Woodcock to work towards now in May.

Congratulations to Sue Thompson for coming back from 5-2 down to win the main event 7-5 against Collette Henrickson, it was a great match!! Also well done to Rebecca Osborne who took the plate prize against Michelle Rooney after being 4-1 down.

county

Next match:
15th April, Shropshire [Away]

Last match:
11th March, Nottinghamshire [Home]
Drew 22-22

After being pipped for a place in the National finals by Notts last season we knew this was a match we couldn't afford to lose. It is always a tough fixture and today was no exception as they flew into an 8-3 lead after the first leg. We eventually got out of the blocks and fought hard to get the score back level but it went to a nail biting finish with Chris Kirk and Charlene Gibson claiming the last two frames to save the match.

I was top scorer winning three out of four and the player of the match award. My last game was a bit disappointing as I virtually handed my opponent Debbie the win on a plate but I'm over the moon to have won three!

England team trials

I was thrilled at the end of last season to have finished 7th in Region 3 to earn myself a place at the England team trials in Great Yarmouth last weekend. To be honest I went there with no real expectations of making the team... it was more a confidence building experience which I wanted to enjoy!

With this in mind I went into my first match with no nerves whatsoever, which is a rarity, and won it 3-1! My next match should have seen me beaten 3-0 but my opponent missed the pot on the black and I managed to claw it back to 2 all, but lost the deciding frame. I was most disappointed with my third which I should have easily won 3-0 but went in off the black in one frame and missed an almost straight black in another and ended up losing 3-1!! After narrowly beating my next opponent 3-2 in a deciding black ball finish, I drew Leicestershire's Sarah Day...!! one of us had to go out at this stage and unfortunately that was me, beaten 3-1. It was a great experience though, I achieved my main aim which was to not lose my first 3 matches...!! and I am hoping to be back next year to do a bit better!

County 'A Team' Captain Steve Robertshaw was the pick of the Leicestershire players on the day battling through 9 rounds to earn himself a place in the England team along with Coalville's Judd Sharpe making the England juniors team winning 6 out of 7 matches. Sarah Day went on to get through to the final play off for a place in the ladies team but was pipped at the post.
