cpl top blokes

4 matches to report this week including a rearranged match on Thursday v Gaz Lavine due to him going away. I had deja vu as I went 5 nil down again as with last week v Dougie. I missed a black in the 3rd which didn't help, but I persevered and once again got it back to 5-4 before being pipped 6-4.

I then had 3 matches on Sunday, the first being against Sarah. Well we both got off to a less than impressive start - in fact it was awful! but at 2 all I seemed to get into it more and took the next 4 frames and my first victory 6-2! Next up was Lee and I was extremely happy to go 3-1 up. I played well until going 5-4 down and played what I think now was a rash pot position wise, which I missed and left Lee on to take the match 6-4. Danny was my third match and he won decisively 6-1. I had a couple of chance and played some good safety but Danny was just too good on the night for me!

cpl top blokes

I'd just got my cue back after having the tip taken down by a couple of mm so I was a bit aprehensive as to how I would play with it. It turned out I got on really well and found it easier to cope with than I thought I would, I had to concentrate on my shots a bit more but that can only be a good thing!

This week I had Sonny first match. It was always going to be tough as he is one of the top players in our league, although he made a few mistakes and I SHOULD have been 3-2 up if it wasn't for my own missed pots. I ended up losing 6-1!

Dougie was next up and I was hoping to get a few on the board to be honest, but Dougie wasn't missing a thing and stormed into a 5-0 lead! I thought I was down and out but managed to nick the 6th frame although the white was hanging over a pocket to go in off the black! I then took the next 3 frames to claw it back to 5-4 but Dougie played a good shot to get his bad balls out in the 10th and took the match 6-4. I must admit I was quite happy with the result after thinking it would be a white wash!

I've got 3 matches next week v Sarah, Lee & Danny... I have got to try and get a win on the board!

I was up against Ian Geldard in my first match this week, and after a blistering start to the league by him, I was expecting to get hammered. However, I went 1 up when he went in off the black, and almost made a clearance from Ian's in off break to go 3-1 up but missed the black! The final score was 6-3 to Ian but I was really happy with how I'd battled and possibly should have won a few more, but it was definately something to build on!

Martyn Finney was my next opponent, I was hoping to get a good result here but I just seemed to go to pieces a bit, I was missing pots left, right & centre and ended up losing 6-1! Martyn finished really well in most frames but I was really gutted with the result after putting such a good performance in against Ian.

I've now played 4, lost 4 and am at the bottom of the table already. I have a couple of games in hand over most players above me but my second game was a blow to my confidence.

county

Next match:
12th November, Staffordshire [Home]

Last match:
15th October, Lincolnshire [Away]
Won 37-7

A fantastic team performance was rewarded with the biggest win I have seen from us since I joined in 2003, with not one of the starting 11 losing more than 1 frame, and 4 getting 100%! This has certainly boosted our league position but with Staffs next match and our bye in December we can't afford to relax!

I got 3/4 today and after a nervy start ended up losing my fourth game which I felt the most confident in! I should really have cleared up from the break but missed the pot on my second last ball, then failed to finish it with another couple of chances. My opponent got a stroke of luck when potting her last ball but no excuses from me, I should have finished it long before it got to that stage!

We are going to Yarmouth again for the National Ladies Singles Championships and the Ladies Interleague in just over 2 weeks, which I am really looking forward to, and this will be good preparation for our last County match the following week where we need a result v Staffs.

cpl top blokes

The new Top Blokes league started on Sunday, with Sarah and myself playing our first 2 fixtures last night.

I got off to a good start against Matt Newell, taking the first frame... that however was to be the only frame I won, losing the next 6 on the trot. I had a few chances but didn't make the most of them.

I'd not seen John Lye play before, and after Sarah thumped him 6-1 I thought I would have a chance at a victory but it wasn't to be. I was 3-2 up but ended up losing 6-3, and it wasn't even that I was playing particularly badly either! Bit of a disappointment really but take nothing away from John's performance, he did some good clearances to clinch the match.
